Why You Should NEVER Skip Engagement Photos
A lot of my clients feel a little awkward about doing an engagement shoot. Maybe it is an extra cost from their photographer, maybe they are feeling a little camera shy, or maybe they aren’t exactly sure what they would do with the photos. No matter the hesitation, I always highly recommend you go for these photos, and here is why:
1. This is your biggest opportunity to become comfortable in front of the camera. Not everyone feels natural posing in front of a professional photographer—especially when it comes to taking candid or romantic shots with your partner—and an engagement session should feel, in part, like practice. By having an engagement session, you'll learn how to relax, feel at ease and even look less tense and awkward in your real wedding photos. That's pretty important.
2. You'll get to know your photographer. Honestly, you’ll spend more time with your photographer than you will with your actual partner on your wedding day. For that reason alone, using the engagement session as an ice breaker is a must. Additionally, it will let your photographer get used to photographing you and learn your personality and comfort levels, which will ultimately lead to better photos.
3. You’ll get a “snapshot” of a very special time in your life. Even if you aren’t sure how you’ll use these photos, I can’t overemphasize the value of commemorating this amazing moment in time. You can feature your neighborhood, the college where you met, your favorite date spot, even your pooch. These personal details likely won’t be part of your wedding photos, so take a moment to work with your photographer to curate a plan for a session that will capture this special time in your lives together.
