Mismatched Bridesmaids Dresses: How to Get the Look & Avoid the Pitfalls
I absolutely adore mismatched bridesmaid dresses- it’s a great look, helps bridesmaids find something that works for their style/body type/budget AND takes the pressure off of the bride to choose something that will make everyone happy.
When it comes to mismatched dresses, there are 3 routes you can go:
1- Same Dress Style in Different Colors
If you’ve found a dress that you love and know will work for all of your bridesmaids, you can do the mismatched look by having each bridesmaid in a different color or tone of the same dress
1- Same Dress Color in Different Styles
Again, this option sticks with one designer. Typically, bridesmaid dress designers create many styles within one line of fabrics and hues. Once you’ve made the selection, each of your girls can pick the style that best suits them.
1- Different Dress Styles AND Colors
This is the one that takes a little more effort to do it right, but is 100% creates the most stylish when accomplished. If you are going to commit here, just make sure you consider these tips:
· Get Specific: Share expectations with your crew for hemlines, send paint swatches that represent the color family, and images that share the overall vibe.
· Confirm it is realistic. You can’t just send a pinterest board to your girls and expect them to make it happen. Do some pre-shopping and send ideas of what might work. If you can’t find realistically priced and available dresses that you would deem appropriate, they won’t be able too either.
· Try not to vary too many features. If the colors and styles will be different, consider solidifying the hemline and fabric before sending the girls out on the hunt.
· Tie the Look together with identical accessories (bridesmaid gift hint hint) and flowers- your florist will appreciate the opportunity to look images of the selected dresses and design a bridesmaid bouquet that will compliment them all and pull the look together.
